Greetings pals! I can’t believe we are actually doing our very first ever episode! I can hardly contain my excitement that I might lose my kernels! Ahhh! (Okay, okay, calm down Paislee.) Ah hem. Anywhoooo, let’s dive right in!

Today we are going to be looking at the 2021 film, Cruella. First off, I absolutely love movies that highlight villains from other stories. In case you didn’t know, Cruella was the villain in the Disney movie, 101 Dalmatians. So seeing Cruella’s origin story in this movie was quite the adventure.

There are so many things I love about Cruella, but the thing I want to focus on are the costumes. Wow, wow, wow, wow, WOW! Let’s give a round of applause to Jenny Beavan, the costume designer who absolutely blew everyone away with her designs! Her costumes were so fantastic that she even won an Academy Award for her design.

Film is a visual art form which means that the costumes need to reflect the overall vision of the movie. There is so much we as an audience can know about a character without them saying a word based on their clothing. That’s because costumes can reveal a character’s job, a character’s economic status, or even their interests. There are several things to consider with costumes. The color and the fabric, for instance, can play an important role.

Let’s take a look at one of the most exciting looks from Cruella. I love the mixture of different fabrics in this costume because it shows that Cruella can be unpredictable and that her personality is made up of very different elements. Then of course the colors! The red signifies passion, danger, and power, while the gold chains give an elegant look.

I could go on and on and ON about the costumes in this movie, BUT I want to hear from you! What do you think of Cruella? Do you have a favorite costume? Submit your own movie review on jsk stories!

Well that’s all for our very first episode! (I sure hope I did okay!) You have been a lovely audience and I can’t wait to see you for episode two! Have a pop-tastic day!
