In the workforce today a large portion of jobs are based in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). In recent years there have been huge strides made to make these subjects more accessible to girls and women, both in school and the workforce. However, even with these strides, women only make up 28% of the workforce in STEM jobs.
Gender Writing Prompt #3
On your own do some research into why women only make up a little over a quarter of stem jobs in the workforce. Consider what are some stereotypes that we teach to both boys and girls that might discourage girls from pursuing those subjects. How do we go about fighting those stereotypes and teaching all students that they are capable of working in any field they are interested in? Write your thoughts and findings in 1-2 paragraphs.
