Among LGBTQ+ students, Trans students are the group most likely to be harrassed and made feel unsafe due to their identity. Less than a quarter of transgender and gender expansive youth report that they can definitely be themselves at school. Even fewer at just 16 percent of transgender and gender expansive youth reported always feeling safe at school. Basic things that other students don’t have to worry about can become a struggle for trans students. Things like respecting and using a person’s preferred pronouns or using the bathroom of their choosing can become huge struggles instead of a basic show of respect.
