Race Handout # 1 Description:

Identity Matching

Print and cut out each square according to the dotted lines. One column contains the names, the other is the definitions. Shuffle each column separately. Then, create two groups of cards that all face down. Each student takes a turn flipping two cards over, one from each group. Then they must decide if they are a match or not. If you print and cut out multiple copies, you can organize your students into smaller groups so they all have an opportunity to play.

Race Handout # 2 Description:

My Diversity Mantra

Print and cut each sheet into halves according to the dotted line. Hand them out to each student and have them fill it out with their “Diversity Mantra”. This mantra could be a goal or phrase each student creates to remind themselves to be more inclusive. Some examples include:

> I will learn more about other cultures.

> I can report bullying to my teacher.

> I will speak kindly to my peers.

To make this more fun, create a spot in your classroom where these mantras can be hung up. These mantras can act as a reminder to your students that your classroom is an inclusive and safe space for students of color.
